BIRNBAUM & DAVIES
Since 2023, Birnbaum and Davies have collaborated on a series of projects that challenge the orthodoxies of institutional curation and pay little respect to traditional ways of categorising and presenting the world of objects that surround us. Drawing on their respective experience and expertise they have developed a unique practice that challenges the label of “curator” manifesting itself in innovative ways across different projects. In a variety of institutional contexts – galleries, archives, libraries and leading art schools – they have explored trans-disciplinary methodologies of exhibition production that juxtapose historical material with works of art, as well as elements from cinema, literature, music, science and cutting-edge digital experimentation. These projects have explored all forms of artistic production, dissemination and transmission, ancient as well as contemporary, from classical cinema to immersive technologies and augmented and mixed reality.
Their research into innovative forms of curation has included seminars and workshops at Goldsmiths in London and the Städelschule in Frankfurt, as well as a series of exhibitions and institutional interventions in Athens, London, Paris and Stockholm.
Their work continues with upcoming exhibitions and publications in Italy and Latin America in 2025.
