The Quantum Effect
By Daniel Birnbaum & Jacqui Davies

2026 Buchhandlung Walther König

The publication has been developed as part of the exhibition project The Quantum Effect, produced by SMAC Venice and OGR Torino and conceived for Venice and Turin. First presented in 2025 at SMAC Venice, the exhibition The Quantum Effect, also curated by Daniel Birnbaum and Jacqui Davies, will open at OGR Torino in autumn 2026, during Turin’s art week, in a new site-specific configuration, open to the public from 31 October 2026 to 28 February 2027.

The publication is not an exhibition catalogue nor a traditional book. Shaped like the mysterious black monolith from Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, it explores the spatial and temporal paradoxes introduced by quantum theory — entanglement, superposition, parallel universes, teleportation and dark matter — bringing together artworks, films and scientific experiments in dialogue with quantum theories and their symbolic representations, in the form of equations assigned by Professor Ulf Danielsson, Secretary of the Nobel Committee for Physics.

As an integral part of the curatorial project, the publication becomes both object and portal to other dimensions, anticipating the second chapter of the project at OGR Torino.
